Glenallachie 10 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml) - Batch 4

Awarded the ultimate accolade at the World Whiskies Awards 2021, we are delighted to be able to offer a very small parcel of Glenallachie's Batch 4 cask strength release to loyal subscribers. Back in 2018, Batch 1 set the standard for showcasing the largeness of the distillery style, with maturation in a combination of PX & oloroso sherry, first-fill bourbon and virgin oak casks. After a fantastic follow up, 3 and 4 continue the theme.

If Batch 3 is marginally fuller through the mid palate, Batch 4 keeps the spices in check, the ABV is less apparent and there's slightly better length. It also feels less oak-driven, particularly at the finish.

Tasting batches 3 & 4 side by side, Australian Brand Ambassador, John Raphael commented, "Personally I can’t separate them excepting perhaps the #4 has some additional drive through the palate and significant length when lined up with the #3 – That’s quite honestly probably splitting hairs and being a little unkind to the #3, it’s a remarkable dram in itself in my view which I’m slightly surprised didn’t win a top tier award."

That pretty much sums it up.
Both batches 3 & 4 are tremendous examples of the Billy Walker craft and where the distillery is heading in terms of complex wood programs ahead. From the 4,500 cases available worldwide, Australia has received a tiny allocation. 56.1% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Strictly limited to one bottle per customer.
