George Remus Bourbon Whiskey (750ml)

Lawrenceburg, Indiana, UNITED STATES
$99. 99
Bottle
$1199.88 Dozen
ABV: 47%
This is MGP’s new house label, acquired from Queen City Whiskey Co., a Cincinnati distillery back in 2016. It's a high-rye blend aged for at least four years. Prohibition-era bootlegger, George Remus is reported to have owned many American distilleries before losing it all. His parties were legendary. On at least one occasion Remus presented all the men with diamond stickpins as parting gifts and their wives with new cars.

Tasting note: This deep amber-gold coloured Bourbon has sweet, fruity aromas of ripe peach, apple strudel, orange spice cake and dates. After brief air contact, cinnamon, vanilla and spicier woody notes enter. Plush and intense with rich caramel and vanilla notes countered by paprika and light cinnamon. Rye develops while hints of orange zest balance out the finish. A big whiskey to suit Manhattans. Non chill filtered. 47% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Cotton candy, caramel, baked apples, roasted pecans, freshly baked rye rolls, and herbs start a truly approachable pour. Its story opens in a spice race: cinnamon, nutmeg, turmeric, and smoked paprika and a slight hint of coffee. A burst of dill hits, just before vanilla walks it home to a lovely, medium finish. An interesting sipper, but remarkable in cocktails.
