We first encountered the "Elements" collection back in 2010, a series of seriously fun NAS whiskies produced by Specialty Drinks to celebrate Islay. Each bottling is a vatting of several barrels from a single distillery, identified by a 'chemical shorthand' on the label.
Lp6 comes from the Laphraoig distillery on the Southern coast of Islay. Renowned as one of the world's most flavoursome whiskies, typically heavily smoked, lean and mean, with distinctive Iodine, lanolin, elastoplast and damp soil-like characteristics which polarise malt drinkers.

Distilled in the late 1990s and matured in a quartet of ex-bourbon barrels, this edition is for those who like their whiskies dry, with the emphasis on peat and smoke rather than fruit.

Notes from the bottlers: Nose: A multitude of aromas here: medicine, brine, black pepper and smoke. Slightly austere and challenging. Palate: Tropical fruit arrives in the form of mango and pineapple, with some lemon zest, big peat and smoke. Still on the lean side, then vanilla adds richness. Adding water ramps up the fruitiness. Finish: Long and lingering, with a dry, smoky edge and a touch of vanilla. 51.3% Alc./Vol.
