A one off vatted malt inspired by a discontinued brand known as "Lucky Blend" released by a well known independent bottler many years ago. This whisky brings together two casks from Caol Ila Distillery, one distilled in 1980, the other in 1984, and marrys them with one cask of Speyside single malt from the Imperial Distillery produced in 1995. All casks were American oak hogsheads. The rich fruit character of the latter combines beautifully with the more assertive, briny, smoky character of the former to create an intriguing dram.

As with other Compass Box releases, this whisky is non chill filtered and has had no colouring added. 754 bottles produced. Sixty bottles available for the Australian market.

Tasting note: Straw colour with pale straw hue. The nose reveals toffee apple, wet cedar wood and subtle vanilla notes intermeshed with brine and sweet charcaol / burning incense like aromas. A soft palate entry fans out slowly in the mouth and builds with flavours of brine, fennel and sweet smoke. Pleasant spirit warmth. Excellent balance with a subtle aftertaste of lanolin, citrus and sweet smoke. Finishes long and dry. An essay in restrained power. 46% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews...A marriage of two casks of Caol Ila (25 and 29 years old) and one cask of Imperial (14 years old). Penetratingly smoky, visceral, rooty, and even mean-tempered at times, ultimately being soothed by creamy vanilla and thick malt. It’s peppered with licorice stick, dark chocolate, campfire charcoal, subtle olive brine and teasing berried fruit. Long, clinging finish. The flavors are nicely integrated and complex. Well done!
