The 2021 vintage in Eden Valley was set up by a dry cool summer with a long run of warm days and cool nights through to harvest creating the perfect scenario for the production of high quality, pristine Rieslings. Three vineyards made contributions to the 2021 Freya Riesling. The Cranes Range vineyard (43%) and the Roesler vineyard (25%) both situated in the cooler Craneford section of Eden Valley were complimented by a 32% component from the Petney vineyard situated in the higher altitude high-Eden sub-region. The vine age was between 23 to 40 years old.
Brilliant water like core with a greenish tinged outskirts. Jumping out of the glass are intense lime, lemon and granny smith apple scents which are trailed by chalky talc notes. Snappy lime, citrus and green apple fruits bounce across the palate underpinned by crunchy acidity. Light talc and chalky mineral elements are also evident. Finishes dry, long and racy.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

    Other Reviews…..
On the back of the excellent 2020 release, another good one from the lads at SoE.
Classic Eden stuff here. Lemon/lime, flowers, stony things. It’s tight, pure-feeling, has crunch and gentle chalky grip, and a long zesty finish with slightly juicy citrus flavours. In short, it’s very good. Drink 2021-2034+

The 2021 Eden Valley vintage rolls on and it is fantastic to see a return to form to the finer riesling style that Eden Valley does so well. This is quite the classic release – its seems at first a picture of restraint but then that understated power unfurls to whack you between the eyes. Super pale in colour before roses lime, pear and bath salt aromas – all tight and focussed. The palate then carries quite a punch – a powerful core of stony, citrus fruits plus fresh yet silky acidity which drives a long and thirst-quenching finish. Delicious and ready to drink now but will sing for a while yet.

Another strong riesling from the 2021 Eden Valley vintage, this dry and vividly fragrant riesling has aromas of sliced lemon and quartz-like minerals. The palate delivers teflon-like purity and drive. So sleek and concentrated. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

2019 Sons of Eden Kennedy Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre
    Barossa Valley, South Australia, AUSTRALIA
    $21. 99
    Bottle
    $263.88 Dozen
    Cellar: Drink now - 6 Years (2021-2027)
    ABV: 14.5%

Named as a tribute to the legendary Barossa Vignerons who pioneered the planting of the old treasured vineyards, the Grenache fruit is the ‘soul’ of this blend and is predominately sourced from an exceptionally low yielding 60+ year-old Light Pass Vineyard. It was originally planted by the Kennedy Family, with ownership eventually being passed onto the charismatic Leo ‘Joe’ KENNEDY who nurtured the vines for many years, selling his prized fruit to local winemakers.

A highly delectable GSM, power packed and bursting at the seams with fleshy fruit.

A blend of 49% Grenache, 28% Shiraz and 23% Mourvedre sourced from a wide variety of Barossa’s sub districts with the vines aged between 20 to 100 years old.  Maturation took place in a mixture of seasoned oak hogsheads and puncheons for a period 12 months.
Totally opaque black core with a bright purple dark red hue. More than ample in its volume, streaming out of the glass are dark raspberry, plum and liquorice fruits which are trailed by a whiff of blueberry, vanillin confectionary, subtle dried herb and light spice notes. Intense and luscious, the palate is awash with rich dark raspberry, blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruits which cast a plush, opulent feel across the palate. Silky smooth tannins with the back half picking up subtle blueberry, dried herb and vanillin confectionary elements. Finishes with good freshness and a dash of spice. Outstanding power with a long, sumptuous aftertaste.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
