The fifth in a series and the first Black Art since Master Distiller, Jim Mcewan's retirement, with Adam Hannett assuming the helm in 2015. Little is disclosed regarding the composition of this whisky, except that the youngest component was distilled in 1992. Hannett comments, "Just before Master Distiller Jim McEwan retired in 2015 he took me to one side and handed me his recipe for the next iteration, Black Art 5. It was an emotional moment, the handing over of responsibility of one of the greatest drams we’ve ever created. I have to say I took the recipe from Jim’s hand and dutifully ignored it. This had to be my Black Art.” 12,000 bottles produced.

Other reviews... As ever, the composition of Black Art is a closely guarded secret, and this is distiller Adam Hannett’s first such assembly. Rich aromas of fig, succulent autumn berries, sherry, cream, and malt feature on the complex, floral nose. Viscous on the palate, which opens dry, with developing berry fruits and spicy oak, plus dried fruits and candied peel. Long and drying in the finish, with plum and peppery oak. 91 points - www.maltadvocate.com, reviewed by: Gavin Smith (Summer 2017)
