Benriach Pedro Ximenez Sherry Wood Finish 17 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Extremely limited this year is the slightly older sibling of the very popular 15 year old PX finish. Initially matured in American oak bourbon barrels before spending time in casks previously used to mature Pedro Ximenez (sweet) sherry. Intended to be a quintessential expression of fruit cake sweetness and malt, put it on your short list if you're into richer-styled whiskies. According to the distillers expect "Dark chocolate and freshly ground coffee beans merging with sweet dates and fresh figs."

Tasting notes: Deep copper penny colour. Sweet, lifted aromas of malt and short bread mingling with dates, prunes and trace sulphur. More raisined with exposure. Full and spicy but not overly sweet. Generous flavours of dark chocolate, dried fig and light honey build towards the warming finish. Lingers with marzipan and dried fruit in the aftertaste. A pepper-infused PX finish that's very lively for a late teen. 46% Alc./Vol. Non chill-filtered and natural colour.
