Auchentoshan 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Lowlands, SCOTLAND
$79.99 Bottle
  • ABV 40%

Auchentoshan is one of only three remaining Lowland distilleries in Scotland, together with Bladnoch and Glenkinchie. Founded in 1800 and located just North of Glasgow, the distillery produces a sweet, accessible malt from the foot of the Kilpatrick Hills overlooking the River Clyde. While the distillery itself is in the Highlands, its water is from Cochna Loch in the Lowlands, making it a Lowland whisky. Lightly peated malt is combined with heated water and fermented to produce a wash that is distilled not twice, as is normal practice, but three times in pot stills resulting in a more refined spirit.

Other reviews... Nose: Perfumes of lemon-grass, linseed oil and vanilla. Palate: Zest of lemon, marshmallow. Sweet but not cloying. Finish: Vanilla, perfumy. Good balance , nicely rounded. Soothing. Long. Comment: Very expressive when young – as might be expected from a classic Lowlander. 40% Alc./Vol. Rating: 8.5 / 10.
-  Michael Jackson,

Further notes… Nose: slightly soapy but redeemed by a mixture of boiled ginger and malt; Taste: really delightful barley sugar thrust and a dusting of vanilla; Finish: rich esters and delicious sweet, malty chewability to the end; almost a touch of Jamaica Rum about it. Comment: the most enjoyable bottling of Auchentoshan 10 for the last decade. 40% Alc./Vol. Rating:87 - Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2006
