Acorn operates from Ikebukuro, Tokyo. Mr. Seishi Tsuta is the president of Acorn Limited and begun his independent bottlings after working for Oddbins wine auctions in London throughout the 70s and 1980s. Early releases under the Acorn label include Single cask Lagavulins and Port Ellens. Preservation of distillery character remains key to the company's philosophy, never allowing the cask to dominate the spirit.

'Port Charlotte' was first produced at Bruichladdich in 2001 making this distillation from November 2002 some of the oldest ever released. The cask was laid down by Mr. Tsuta himself and is not a brokered cask. The whisky has picked up a beautiful level of sweetness over time, that combined with the peat makes for a sublime Islay experience.

Tasting note: [20ml sample] Deep and complex, fizzing with freshness and intensity on the nose evoking smoked fish, bbq fuel, cheese rind and candle wax overlaying apple and vanilla-laced barley. A sweet cascade of creamy malt, honey and ash over the tongue; melting Fishemeran’s Friend lozenge, salted crackers and smokey vanillas with touches of lanolin trailing through the aftertaste. Multi-layered with impeccable balance. A knock-out cask. 60.7%
