Abel Lepitre is a small family Champagne maker, located in the village of Ludes, on the Montagne de Reims. This is quite distinct from being a "sous mark" or second label which many Champagne producers make for their larger clients. The Lepitre family started making Champagne in 1924 and have vineyards located around Montagne de Reims, Vallee de la Marne and Cotes de Blanc. The Champagne spends 3 years on lees and receives minimal dosage. Made from 60% Pinot Noir, 15% Pinot Meunier and 25% Chardonnay. The wine displays all the classic character expected in good Champagne. Lepitre's vineyards are rated 92/100 which reflects the quality of the grapes produced. Bright straw colour. Fine, profuse bead, excellent mousse. The nose is very appealing with pronounced bottle development character, yeasty autolysis and nutty biscuit aromas. The palate is generous in flavour. The creamy texture is enhanced by nut and biscuit with toasty yeast. Excellent length and persistence, this is a fuller style of Champagne but by no means coarse. Long creamy yeast aftertaste.
