2019 Henschke Henry's Seven

A blend of 74% Shiraz, 16% Grenache, 8% Mataro and 2% Viognier. The Viognier was co-fermented with the Shiraz whilst the Grenache and Mataro were fermented separately. Maturation took place in predominately seasoned French oak hogsheads (94%) for a period of 10 months.
Black as night in colour with a deep bright dark red black hue. Elevated dark raspberry, ripe plum and liquorice scents intermingle with a whiff of apricot, subtle vanillin cedar and spice. Rich, juicy and fresh the palate is awash with succulent dark raspberry, dark plum, liquorice and blueberry fruits which sit over a back drop of vanillin cedar and spice. Plush with polished tannins and bright acidity, it concludes long and fruit driven with a real sense of vitality.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

A super blend of shiraz, grenache, mataro, viognier, and one that I seem to most recently recall tasting out of a hotel mini bar. No big deal on where I tasted it, but safe to say I got through a couple of glasses and was pleased.
Anyways.
This is sweet at its heart and soft and lush. It’s silky textured, generous in a way, has some nice tightening tannins and a brisk, tart finish for freshness. Mixed forest berries, that kind of heady, sweet woody spice thing, a bit of apricot, and, certainly a slickness and sweetness mid palate that says something about the white grape viognier. Easy drinking, enough structure to take you to level 2.
