Chateau La Tour Blanche takes its name from the founder of the estate, Jean Saint Marc du Latourblanche, and is one of the most respected producers in Sauternes. The 40 hectares of vines used for their grand vin are planted in one large parcel with a prime location close to the Ceron river, and the soils are a mix of gravel, clay, sand, and limestone. Planted here is a combination of 83% Semillon, 12% Sauvignon Blanc, and an unusually high proportion of Muscadelle at 5%. The Semillon is aged in 35% new, French oak barrels for 16 to 18 months, while the Sauvignon Blanc and the Muscadelle are aged for 16-18 months in stainless steel vats before blending and bottling.

Other Reviews....
The 2019 La Tour Blanche has an open, well-defined, slightly Germanic bouquet that gains more intensity with aeration. Just a slight smokiness develops in the glass. The palate is very detailed with fine mineralité, taut and focused, real grip and weight with a persistent finish. This is a classy Sauternes, beautifully crafted and destined to age with aplomb in bottle. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. Drink 2028-2060.

Appealing nose of dried mangoes, figs, chamomile, honey, marmalade and ginger. It’s creamy, sweet and luscious, yet fresh. Lovely mango character. Drink or hold.

Another beautiful wine from this estate, the 2019 La Tour Blanche has a medium-gold hue as well as a classic Sauternes bouquet of honeyed peach, white flowers, ginger, and tangerines. Rich and medium to full-bodied, it displays a terrific balance between its sweetness and acidity, a great mid-palate, and certainly no shortage of length on the finish.

White pear, peach and green apple on the nose alongside some candied lemon notes. This is clean and pure with excellent acidity. Quite expressive and pronounced flavours of sherbet lemon, bright and zesty, with some caramel notes and burnt orange bitter edges. I like the overall feel, it's well balanced and fresh with real clarity. One that is more approachable right now. Drink 2027 - 2045.
