‘Rich and plush, this is a very seductive Central Victorian Shiraz.’
Dense inky black core with a deep dark purple black hue. Moving through the olfactory senses are uplifted aromatics of blackberry, liquorice and black cherries which are married to lightly smoked vanillin oak, fennel and peppered meats. Rich blackberry and liquorice fruits saturate the palate with a feeling of succulence. Dark plum, vanillin oak, light scorched earth, dried meats and blackpepper sit in the back half. An opulent texture is backed by sturdily built tannin structure that nonetheless has a polished feel. Excellent depth with a long seductive finish.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Hand-picked and sorted, one batch with 100% whole bunch carbonic maceration contributed 35% of the blend, the balance whole-berry fermented, matured in French oak (16% new) for 9 months. An impressive support role to the Estate Syrah, vinified totally differently, and reflecting skilled winemaking. It's light to medium-bodied, with the juicy carbonic contribution tickling the tongue, black cherry and plum to the fore. Drink by 2033.
James Halliday – Australian Wine Companion
This has very attractive, fresh and spicy complexity on the nose. Cool-climate syrah done right, offering dark berries, graphite, pepper and dark spices. There’s terrific energy to the dark-berry fruit flesh and the long, supple tannins. Drink over the next four years. Screw cap.
