Like the Duke’s Magpie Hill Reserve Cabernet, the depth of colour here is again quite spectacular. Pitch black core with a very deep dark red black hue. Sailing out of the glass are seductive blackberry and liquorice scents which are trailed by some black cherries, lightly smoked vanillin cedar, earth, dried herbs and blackpepper. Rich, sumptuous blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruits pour across the full bodied palate with a refined opulence. Vanillin cedar, traces of fennel and blackpepper the back drop. Velvet smooth tannins lead into a long supplely textured finish that possesses abundant richness and plenty of torque.
Drink over the next 8-10 years.
Alc. 14.5%

Other Reviews….
Estate-grown, small parcels. The colour is deep, the palate exceptionally focused and full-bodied, yet it has the Duke's lightness of touch courtesy of contract winemaking by Rob Diletti of Castle Rock. This is a great wine with a very long future. Drink by 2048.
