Certified organic and hailing from the what winemaker Troy Kalleske describes as a stunning vintage Buckboard Durif takes its name from the buckboard buggy that was used to transport supplies to and from the farm. Sourced from a single vineyard, the low yielding vines grown in shallow, sandy loam soil over deep red clay provide ideal conditions for Durif. Maturation took place in American oak hogsheads (25% new) for a period of 12 months.

An immense Durif possessing out of this world richness and an inky like concentration

This incredible Durif starts with a WOW and ends with an even bigger WOW! Amazing colour saturation displaying an impenetrable glass staining pitch black heart with an equally deep black dark red hue. Wafting from the glass are powerful scents of black and Morello cherries as well as liquorice. Black plum, vanillin oak, hints of dark chocolate and spice follow on. The massive, blockbuster palate is not for the faint of heart. Exceptionally concentrated, decadently rich and possessing a thick, viscous textural feel that’s liqueur like, its intense black cherry, liquorice, Morello cherry and black plum flavours are carried by firm muscular tannins. Elements of vanillin oak and spicy pepper are also evident. Huge, dense, chewy finish with a long powerful aftertaste of luscious black cherries, liquorice, Morello cherries, black plums, vanillin oak and spicy pepper. An outstanding Durif.
