Best known for their work at Dandelion Vineyards, Heirloom is another venture of Elena and Zar Brooks. The McLaren Vale Shiraz is sourced from the Brooks’ neighbour the McMurtie Family and is aged in some new but mainly 3 and 4 year one-year old French and Bulgarian oak barriques for 16 months.
Rich, complex and silken with a long sumptuous finish.
Super dense inky black core with a very deep dark red black hue. Intense liquorice and black cherry aromas have a smoky bacon fat like overlay with vanillin cedar, fennel, light scorched earth and black pepper also present. Rich and silky in texture the full bodied palate is awash with lush black cherry, blackberry and liquorice fruits which are complexed by smoky vanillin cedar, earthy fennel, dried herbs and blackpepper. Plush velvet smooth tannins show good underling structure. Superb power and depth finishing long and sumptuous.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Deeply coloured, this is a wine as much about its region as variety, no mean feat given the depth of the wine. It's the conjunction of blackberry, black cherry, dark chocolate and neatly introduced tannins to provide the structure. This ticks all the boxes. Drink by 2037.
