2017 Coates The Syrah

An excellent European styled Syrah that is both savoury and finessed. Maturation took place in French oak (25% new), sourced from a variety of cooperages, for a period of 18 months. Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red hue. Expressive black cherry, blackberry and liquorice aromas merge with smoky vanillin cedar, meaty earth like notes and blackpepper. Rich and silky, the mid weighted palate is flooded with dark plum, dark cherry and liquorice fruits which are supplely textured in their feel. Taking a back seat are smoked meats, spicy vanillin cedar and peppered earth characters. Velvet smooth tannins finishing long, refined and savoury.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
