In the last few decades, Ribera del Duero has emerged as Spain's most compelling wine region. Located in the north-central part of the Iberian Peninsula, roughly halfway between Madrid and the Basque coast, the appellation resides along the upper reaches of the Rio Duero, the same river that flows through Toro and into Portugal. The vineyards grow at the highest average elevation in all of Europe and experience wide diurnal/nocturnal temperature swings. The reds typically offer plush textures and solid fruit weight comparable to those from the Southern Rhone, though others find similarities to riper style Bordeaux. The soils and climate have proven to be an excellent match for Tinto Fino (the local variant of Tempranillo).

Magnificent depth of colour featuring a super saturated inky black core and a deep dark purple black hue. Intensely scented ripe black cherry and liquorice aromatics waft out of the glass over a back drop of earthy vanillin cedar, dried meats and subtle spicy dried herb end notes. Medium bodied and not as ripe or heavy as previous vintages the palate nonetheless has wonderful freshness and buoyancy whilst still retaining its richness. Beautifully ripened black cherry and liquorice fruit decorates the mouth underscored by well disguised vanillin cedar, a subtle earthy meatiness and spicy incense infusions. Dryish finish with ripe tannins and a chewy mouthfeel. Long ripe black cherry, liquorice, vanillin cedar, earthy incense and spicy dried meats aftertaste.
Cellar 5-6 years.
