2016 Te Whare Ra TWR Pinot Gris

2016 was an exceptional vintage in Marlborough, characterised by a warmer and drier than average summer that produced very balanced, fleshy wines with lovely fruit purity and ripe, juicy acidity. The wine was fermented in a combination of stainless steel tanks (80%) and old French oak (20%). The tank portions underwent slow, cool ferments to retain aromatics whilst the parcels fermented in barrel were carried out in large format neutral oak on full lees and stirred regularly. All parcels were given time on lees to provide texture and complexity. Certified Organic.

Brilliant pale straw colour with a watery hue. Elevated aromas of ripe pear and honeysuckle infused with quince are followed by traces of musk with spicy end notes. Rich mouthfilling flavours of ripe pears laced with honeysuckle and quince are enveloped by a luscious textural feel which is complimented by a dry fresh finish. Also evident are nuances of musk, subtle leesy dried hay like characters and spice. Excellent drive with a lengthy ripe pear, honeysuckle, quince, leesy dried hay like character and spice aftertaste.
Drink over the next 2-3 years.
