Imperious inky black colour with an equally deep dark purple black hue. Soaring aromatics of ripe blackberries, liquorice, black cherries, dark chocolate and hints of dried apricot intoxicate the olfactory senses. Lightly smoked vanillin oak, fennel and spice notes are also apparent. An absolute behemoth, the dense, hedonistically rich palate is completely saturated with luscious blackberry, liquorice, dark plum and black cherry fruit which creates an opulently texture atmosphere. Vanillin oak, dried meats, wood fire smoke and faint notions of dried apricot sit beneath finishing with plenty of pepper and spice. Rugged tannins provide some grip yet still have a polished feel. Magnificent power and depth with an exceptionally long aftertaste.
Cellar 8-10 years.
Alc. 16%

Other Reviews…
Everything about Standish's 2016 The Relic Shiraz-Viognier is remarkable, starting with the ridiculous color. It's so dark, so purple, so vibrant. Then the nose boasts soaring florals and stone fruits, while the palate delivers fresh blueberries and dried spices. It's full-bodied but creamy-textured, with supple tannins and concentrated fruit that lingers on the plush finish. Just awesome stuff. Drink 2018-2035.
