Sourced from a single vineyard this wine was created as a tribute to Ben Schild who began the family’s long association with winemaking and viticulture. The 2016 vintage was fermented in open fermenters before being matured in a combination of new and old French, American and Hungarian oak for 18 months and then underwent a further 24 months maturation in bottle prior to release.
Dense inky black heart with a deep dark red black hue. Wafting from the glass are heady scents of liquorice, blackberries, dark plum and hints of dark chocolate. Subtlety toasted vanillin oak, fennel and spicy blackpepper notes follow on. Boasting serious levels of concentration and power, rolling across the full bodied palate in lavish proportions are rich liquorice, blackberry, black cherry and dark plum fruits which are underpinned by smoky vanillin oak, subtle earthy fennel characters and blackpepper. Sturdy yet polished tannins provide focus. Finishes very long and opulent.

Hand-picked, the vines planted '00, bunch and berry-sorted by machine, open-fermented, 4 days cold soak, 11-day ferment, matured for 21 months in French oak (30% new). A very rich and generous shiraz showing what can be achieved with relatively young vines, French oak playing an important role. Drink by 2036.
