The Savaterre vineyard was established in 1996 by owner and winemaker Keppell Smith after an expansive search through Australia’s top wine regions to discover the magic terroir he was after. Great importance is placed on the use of indigenous yeasts in creating wines that are unique, intense, textural and complex. Fruit for the Frere Cadet is sourced from a highly regarded neighbours vineyard and the wine sees a lower percentage of new French oak with a maturation period of 18 months.

Brilliantly walks the tightrope, balancing freshness against textural richness whilst still showing off Beechworth’s renowned intensity and power.

Matured for 18 months in French oak. Brilliant very pale straw colour with a distinctive greenish tinge to the outskirts and a watery hue. Uplifted aromas of white peaches, ripe nectarines and dried honey marry into gun flint characters, citrusy nougat and hints of spicy cashew. Medium weight with excellent mid palate richness and a fullish textural feel yet remarkable freshness, exceptionally lengthy flavours of white peaches, ripe nectarines, citrus and dried honey decorate the mouth. Complexing elements of gun flint infusions, nougat, biscuity cashew like oak and spice follow on. Clean dry finish with vibrant acidity counterpointing the wines textural attributes. Very long aftertaste of white peaches, nectarines, dried honey, citrusy nougat, light cashew and spice. An outstanding Beechworth Chardonnay.
