2016 Leeuwin Estate Prelude Vineyards Chardonnay

Brilliant very pale straw colour with greenish tinged edges and a watery hue. Aromas of white peaches and ripe nectarines laced with dried honey evolve from the glass followed by biscuity oak, hints of struck matchstick and citrusy nougat. Rich yet with a vein of freshness that gives it an elegant fresh feel, a combination of white peach, nectarine and grapefruit flavours are featured. Traces of dried honey, stony mineral and light citrusy nougat characters are also evident. Finishes clean and dry with crisp acidity. Aftertaste of white peaches, nectarines, a touch of grapefruit, light dried honey and stony mineral characters.

Death, taxes and the quality of Leeuwin Estate chardonnay. This may 'only' be the Prelude version but its quality is as clear as a bright blue sky. Pure stone fruit, sweet oak, pear and a cleansing flush of citrus through the finish. It builds, it satisfies and it refreshes. Elegance and power in one. Drink by 2023.
