2016 Hill Smith Estate Adelaide Hills Chardonnay

Consistently one of the best value Chardonnays in the marketplace it delivers a seamless mesh of richness, complexity, texture and freshness for a very modest price.

Fermentation was carried out by wild yeasts with 25% of the blend fermented & matured for 13 months in new French oak barriques, 45% in one to three year old French oak barriques and the balance in older French oak barriques. In order to build texture and complexity the wine also underwent regular lees stirring. Brilliant very pale straw colour with a glimmer of green around the edges and a watery hue. Delightfully complex aromatics of white peaches and nectarines married to funky gun flint infusions are followed by some light biscuity oak and hints of citrusy nougat. The palate has a wonderful combination of richness and finesse with a subtle textural creaminess offset by an enlivening freshness on the finish. Mouthfilling flavours of white peaches, nectarines and subtle dried honey infused with gun flint sit over traces of biscuity oak and citrusy nougat. Excellent length with a long satisfying aftertaste of white peaches, nectarines, dried honey, gun flint infusions, faint nougat and biscuity oak.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
