Greywacke is the Marlborough label of former Cloudy Bay winemaker Kevin Judd, where he presided over that company’s first 25 vintages establishing the reputation that it has today. The name Greywacke was adopted by Kevin and his wife Kimberley for their first Marlborough vineyard in Rapaura, named in recognition of the high prevalence of rounded greywacke river stones in the soils of the vineyard. Kevin registered the name back in 1992 with the vague notion that he might one day want to use it on a wine label of his own.

Brilliant pale straw colour with a faint greenish tinge around the outskirts and a watery hue. Elevated aromas of passionfruit, green apples and unripe gooseberries evolve from the glass followed by some subtle grassy herbaceous characters and citrusy mineral infusions. Light and zesty across the palate yet at the same time intensely flavoured, a combination of passionfruit and ripe gooseberries fill the mouth over some green apple, a light grassiness and citrusy mineral. Crunchy acid finish with a long aftertaste of passionfruit, ripe gooseberries, subtle green apple, some grassiness and citrusy mineral.
Drink over the next 1-2 years.
