The Gaudio family established their winery on the Mondalino hill – bricco in Italian – in Monferrato, located north of Asti, in 1973. Beatrice Gaudio has recently taken over the winemaking duties from her father Mauro and is continuing the familys work with the indigenous varieties Barbera, Grignolino, Freisa and the rare Malvasia Nera.

A blend of 85% Barbera with 15% Freisa that highlights the plump juicy fruit that’s typical of Barbera. Vinification took place in stainless steel tanks with six months ageing in old barriques. Outstanding colour displaying a dense inky black core with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Ripe black cherry and liquorice aromas evolve over earthy incense like notes, a hint of leather and spicy herbs. Bold, rich and chewy the palate is engulfed with lavish ripe black cherry, blackberry and liquorice flavours which are underscored by scorched earth and spicy dried herbs. Ripe chewy tannins with good freshness on the finish and a long black cherry, liquorice, scorched earth, subtle leather and spice aftertaste.
Cellar 3-4 years.
