Opaque dark red black tinged core with a dark red hue. Pronounced black raspberry aromas ascend from the glass with ripe black cherry, liquorice, earthy incense characters, dried herbs and pepper notes also evident. Rich juicy black raspberry, black cherry and liquorice flavours are backed by ripe chewy tannins with earthy incense like characters and spicy dried herbs in the background. Dry robust finish with an aftertaste of black cherries, raspberries, liquorice, scorched earth, subtle infusions of incense, dried herbs and lots of pepper and spice.

Other Reviews…
One of the highlights in my Côtes du Rhône tastings was the 2016 Côtes du Rhône from Domaine Charvin. Based on 81% Grenache and the rest mostly Mourvèdre and Syrah made exactly like the Châteauneuf-du-Pape release, it gives up a terrific perfume of blackberries, rose petals, peppery herbs, and earth. It’s fresh and elegant, yet also concentrated and textured. Drink it anytime over the coming 10-15 years.
