2016 Charles Melton The Kirche Shiraz Cabernet

A blend of 80% Shiraz and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 20 months in French oak barriques. Superb colour displaying an inky black core with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Lifted aromas of inky blackberries and liquorice merge with some ripe blackcurrant over vanillin cedar, faint tobacco and spice. Rich blackberry and ripe blackcurrant flavours dominate the full bodied palate with some liquorice also chipping in. Underscoring the opulent fruit is well integrated vanillin cedar, hints of earthy tobacco and spicy pepper. Slightly dryish finish with sturdy, grainy tannins providing excellent structure. Long aftertaste of spicy ripe blackcurrant, liquorice, blackberry, vanillin cedar, subtle earthy tobacco and pepper. From the outstanding 2016 vintage this is a rich, seamlessly integrated Barossa Shiraz Cabernet.
