A new label in the Standish portfolio the fruit for this wine is sourced from the Stonegarden Vineyard, located in south eastern hills of the Eden Valley, which was planted in 1858. Pours with an attractive inky black purple core and a bright very deep dark purple hue. Still youthful the nose offers up intense aromatics of freshly crushed blackberries and liquorice tinged with hints of violets over some fresh dark plum, vanillin cedar and spicy pepper. Despite its immense richness and concentration there’s a polished finesse to this wine. Powerful flavours of freshly crushed blackberries, dark plum and inky liquorice fill the mouth overlaying vanillin cedar, spice and pepper. Finishes with vibrant acidity and a burgeoning muscular tannin structure that imparts some chewiness to the inky yet opulent mouthfeel. Outstanding length with a very long aftertaste of freshly crushed blackberries, dark plums, liquorice, subtle violet infusions, vanillin cedar and spice. A thoroughly impressive effort that will require some patience for all of the components to reach perfect harmony with one another.
Cellar 8-10 years.
Alc 14.5%

Other Reviews….
Hand-picked from the Stonegarden Vineyard (planted 1858) in the far south eastern hills of the Eden Valley. I’m not sure Eden Valley Shiraz gets much better than this.
Black fruits, black pepper and exotic spice, sage and aromatic herbs, BBQ snags, floral top notes. Full bodied, incredible density and depth here, black fruits with a subtle mintiness, all that spice and mouth-perfume, then sheets of silky ultra-high pixel tannin, cool acidity, and superb length, with a cascade of nourishing tannin to farewell. Superb. Drink 2019-2040+
