The Schild story dates back to 1866 when the family immigrated from Europe as part of an exodus from religious persecution. For many years the Schilds toiled the harsh farmlands of Mallee country near Lameroo. In 1952, a 40 acre farm was purchased in the Barossa Valley, which had a small vineyard included.  Over the years the Schilds have expanded their holding, growing fruit mainly for other people. In 1998, the bold step of crushing seven tonnes of grapes was made, which produced 450 cases of wine. Here is the latest instalment from this burgeoning family empire.

Totally opaque black as night core with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Elevated aromatics of liquorice, dark plum and blackberries evolve from the glass showing very good intensity followed by vanillin cedar, hints of fennel and pepper. Medium to full bodied the palate possesses succulent flavours of dark plums, ripe dark cherries and liquorice over subtlety toasted vanillin cedar and spice. Nice fresh finish with well integrated velvety tannins. Aftertaste of spicy dark plums, liquorice and lightly toasted vanillin cedar.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
Alc 14.5%

Other Reviews....
The toasted herb notes are distinctive, offering rosemary and bay leaf accents to the dried cherry and blackberry core, with accents of fresh orange zest and plenty of cigar box details. Expressive, especially on the finish. Drink now through 2030.
