2015 Sanguine Estate Progeny Shiraz

Over the last decade or so Sanguine Estate have steadily built a reputation as one of Heathcote’s top producers making rich, intensely flavoured wines that have brought a loyal following. Their entry level Shiraz ‘Progeny’ is consistently one of the districts best buys. Ben Riggs continues to consult the Hunter family in their endeavours.

A rich, pepper infused Heathcote Shiraz that possesses great structural qualities.

Matured in French oak barriques (approximately 20% new) for 18 months. Impenetrable black as night dark red core with a deep bright dark red black hue. Elevated black cherry, liquorice and blackberry aromas infused with blackpepper are followed by some confectionary and spicy vanillin oak. Full bodied, terrifically concentrated and rich the palate is awash with ripe black cherry, liquorice and blackberry flavours supported by a backdrop of crushed rocks, vanillin cedar and spicy pepper. A sturdy robust tannin structure provides the opulent fruit with a great framework and provides a bit of chewy grip on the finish. Excellent depth and power with a long peppery aftertaste of ripe black cherries, liquorice, crushed rock and spicy vanillin cedar.
