2015 Mr Riggs The Gaffer Shiraz

Named in honour of John “The Gaffer” Riggs (1814-1902), the great-great-great grandfather of winemaker Ben Riggs, this McLaren Vale blended Shiraz was made to acknowledge 150 years of the Riggs family’s rich farming heritage in South Australia. A low yielding vintage of great quality, grapes for the 2015 Gaffer have been sourced from vineyards from a variety of McLaren Vale’s best sites.

Excellent colour saturation displaying a black as night core with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Nosing reveals pronounced aromas of liquorice, ripe black cherry and blackberry laced with blackpepper followed by some lightly smoked vanillin cedar and spice. Ripe and juicy this richly textured, full bodied Shiraz possesses lashings of black fruits including blackberries and liquorice followed by traces of black cherries and lightly smoked vanillin cedar with a spicy peppered, slightly dryish finish. Fleshy mid palate with silky smooth tannins enhancing the opulent nature of the wine. Long peppery aftertaste of black cherries, liquorice, blackberries, smoky vanillin cedar and blackpepper.
