This is the youngest whisky in Lady of the Glen's current outturn, and also the most curious, partly because it's a first. Given the recent boom in both blends and single malts, companies like Pernod Ricard have been challenged to invest in expanding existing capacity or in building new projects, like Dalmunach. Established in 2015 on the site of the now closed 'Imperial Distillery' and named for a nearby pool in the River Spey, Dalmunach is one of the industry's babies but with a nod to the past - several of Imperial’s key design features have been adapted into the design. Pernod is part of Chivas, so no doubt the majority of Dalmunach's output will be making its way into leading blends like Chivas, Ballantine’s and Royal Salute.

Tasting note: Matured in refill American oak then finished for six months in a first fill Oloroso quarter cask. Young but precociously coloured, the initial pass detects intense fruit cake-like aromas, partly obscured by wafts of alcohol before settlling into a sherried theme. This obviously needs more time to integrate, but already boasts plenty of flavour and appeal. It's a dryish malt, with fruit'n'nut dark chocolate and flashes of caramel. The finish is gently prickly, with almonds, cinnamon and bittersweet chocolate, leaving the impression of a distillate captured in mid-development. 157 bottles. 59.6% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Notes from the bottlers... Yoghurt, stewed blackcurrants and marzipan.
