The Gianetti family has farmed land in Montalcino for many generations but it wasn’t until 1964 that they were able to purchase their own property and begin making wines under the La Fornace label. This impressive, rustic version of Rosso di Montalcino was matured in Slavonian oak barrels for 12 months.
Totally opaque black dark red core with a dark red hue. Beautiful nose redolent in ripe blackcurrant tinged with violets, dark cherries, earthy old cedar, notions of dried herbs and spice. Rich, medium bodied blackcurrant and dark cherry flavours dominate the front half of the palate with old spicy cedar, earth and dried herbs ensuing. Dryish finish with balanced acidity and chewy, robust tannins giving the back palate a rustic feel. Excellent concentration with a long aftertaste of spicy blackcurrant, earthy dark cherries, old cedar and dried herb aftertaste.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%
