2015 Hugo Shiraz

Hugo wines are a family owned and operated winery with fifth generation member John Hugo in charge of winemaking. With vineyards extending across 24 hectares only estate grown fruit is used in the production of their wines. The 2015 Hugo Shiraz was matured in a combination of French and American oak barrels.

Rich, yet not heavy, this superb McLaren Vale Shiraz has an air of refinement to it with a chorus of plush blue and black fruits flowing effortlessly across the palate.

Impenetrable black as night core with a deep dark red black hue. Pronounced aromas of liquorice, ripe blackberry and dark plum have an elevated lift with lightly toasted vanillin oak, infusions of choc mint and pepper ensuing. A marriage of power and finesse, rich, plushly textured fruits of liquorice, ripe blackberries and dark plum flood the mouth without the slightest sense of heaviness. Underscoring the fruit are nuances of lightly toasted vanillin cedar, a touch of earth and pepper. Silky smooth, seamlessly integrated tannins. Excellent depth with a very lengthy conclusion of liquorice, ripe blackberries, subtle choc mint, vanillin cedar and pepper.
