Semi translucent dark red core with a light red hue. Fragrant violet, ripe cherry and strawberry aromas laced with anise flow through the nostrils followed by forest floor and spicy cedar notes. Light to medium weight with ample richness to the fruit, the palate dishes up a savoury flavour profile of ripe dark cherries and anise over forest floor, lightly toasted cedar and spice characters. Supple mouthfeel, finely grained tannins and a medium to long finish.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.

Other Reviews….
Hand-picked, 25% whole bunches, the balance destemmed, open-fermented, 14 days on skins, matured in French oak, (10% new). A very powerful wine in the context of the Upper Yarra, although Willowlake Vineyard is the oldest vineyard in the Upper Yarra. It rides high, wide and handsome on its pile of red and black fruits. Left field for its district and vintage, but will richly reward the patient. Drink by 2030.
