Matured for 15 months in French puncheons. Impenetrable black core with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Elevated ripe dark plum and liquorice aromas are followed by blackberry, vanillin cedar, fennel and spice. Juicy with a feeling of freshness, rich flavours of dark plum, liquorice and blackberry grace the palate with a degree of elegance. Elements of vanillin cedar, fennel and spicy pepper flow on. Fine grained yet sturdy tannins combine with fresh acidity to provide plenty of structure. Good length with a long spicy dark plum, liquorice, blackberry, vanillin cedar and pepper aftertaste.
Cellar 6-8 years.
Alc. 14.5%

Other Reviews…
A new edition to the Chalk Hill stable with the back label giving credit to winemaker Renae Hirsch and the vineyard, Hickinbotham Block 126, fruit off rows 8 to 16, 275 dozen made. This is classy stuff. The dark fruit is succulent, there's the right amount of spice and flavour. It's savoury, full-bodied with velvety tannins. The wine spends 15 months in French oak puncheons, superbly integrated and adds another layer to this already complex, compelling wine. Drink by 2035.
