2014 West Cape Howe Book Ends Cabernet Sauvignon

Mount Barker, Western Australia, AUSTRALIA
$22. 99
Bottle
$275.88 Dozen
Cellar: 5 - 6 Years (2021-2022)
ABV: 14.5%
Closure: Stelvin

Sourced from West Cape Howe’s best blocks of Mount Barker Cabernet Sauvignon this wine was matured for 18 months in a selection of new and older French oak barriques and then given a further 12 months bottle age before being released.

Possessing a rich mouthfeel and great depth of fruit this really delivers the goods for a Cabernet Sauvignon around the $20 mark.

Excellent colour with an impenetrable black as night core and a deep dark red black hue. Elevated aromatics of blackcurrant and mulberry fruit are overlaid by black olive and tobacco characters with spicy vanillin cedar end notes. Medium bodied and showing excellent varietal character the palate is decorated with beautiful rich blackcurrant and dark mulberry fruit which dominates over cedary tobacco characters, some bay leaf infusions and spice. The tannins are very finely grained, perfectively interwoven with the fruit yet also provide a solid framework. Long aftertaste of blackcurrant, mulberry, cedary tobacco characters, a hint of bay leaf and spice.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc 14.5%

Other Reviews….
From several vineyards, each portion fermented and matured (18 months) separately in new and used French barriques. Deep, bright crimson-purple; a great example of the vitality and varietal clarity that West Cape Howe brings to its wines, terroir riding high. Its cassis fruit is mouthwatering, not a phrase you would normally use with cabernet, but true here. Drink by 2034.
