The Gnadenfrei vineyard is Tscharke’s oldest property predominately made up of vines planted by Damien’s Grandfather. Situated at 300m above sea level, the conglomerate rock formations of pink quartzite and shallow red/brown clays discourages high vigorous growth and results in low yielding vines with intensely flavoured fruit. The wine is matured in a combination of new and seasoned French oak for approximately 19 months.

Ripe, expressive and powerful, this gorgeously textured wine is an outstanding example of modern day Barossa Shiraz.

Inky black dark purple core with a deep dark purple black tinged hue. Potent aromas of ripe blackberries, dark plums and liquorice are complemented by nuances of dark chocolate, vanillin oak and spice. Full bodied the palate boasts outstanding richness and power, yet is far from overweight, possessing a liquid satin like textural feel with opulent flavours of ripe blackberries, liquorice and dark plums gliding across the palate, filling every crevasse of the mouth. Intermingling are subtle dark chocolate, vanillin cedar and spice nuances. Superb fruit purity is matched with silky smooth tannins and magnificent length. Finishes with an exceptionally long aftertaste of ripe blackberries, liquorice, dark plums, subtle dark chocolate, spicy vanillin oak and pepper.
Cellar 6-8 years.
