A blend of 92% Shiraz and 8% Viognier the Descendant vineyard was planted with cuttings from one of the old Run Rig vineyards. The Shiraz fruit is crushed on top of the Viognier from the same vineyard, which has been lightly pressed for blending with the Run Rig. The blend of fruit is then co-fermented and matured for 22 months in second fill French barrels that have been previously used for Run Rig.

Outstanding depth of colour displaying an impenetrable midnight black core with a deep dark red black hue. Exotic and intensely aromatic the nose offers up a melody of dark plum, liquorice, blackberry and dark chocolate aromas tied to dried apricot, hints of smoky vanillin oak and spice. Decadently rich with a luxurious mouthfeel the palate is layered with opulent dark fruit flavours of plum, liquorice and ripe blackberries which sail through the mouth like liquid silk overlaying a back drop of subtle dried apricot infusions, smoky vanillin oak and spice. Velvety tannins have a structural presence yet are largely concealed beneath the waves of succulent fruit. Outstanding power and depth with a very long, lavish aftertaste of dark plums, liquorice, ripe blackberries, subtle smoky vanillin oak, dried apricots and spice.
Cellar 6-8 years.
