2014 The Graillot Project Syrah No. 2

Opaque black dark red colour with a bright dark red hue. Fragrant spicy dark cherry, plum and liquorice aromatics emerge from the glass with incense, a light meatiness and pepper following on. Light to medium weight the palate is very elegant but also quite powerful with flavours of dark cherries and plum to the fore. Underlying liquorice, spicy fennel and pepper nuances are also present. Very fine grained seamlessly integrated tannins. Fresh finish with a long dark cherry, plum, subtle liquorice, fennel and pepper aftertaste. A very light and elegant Heathcote Shiraz that nonetheless has plenty of depth.

Hand-picked from the bottom of the block, 40% whole bunches/60% whole berries, including small parcels of carbonic maceration. Powerful, yet supple and smooth, almost velvety, rates 100% on the hedonic scale. Don't open a bottle if you think you are just going to have a glass. Drink by 2030.
