Gerhard Pittnauer took to running his family estate at the tender age of 18 and learned on the job. 20 years on he and wife Brigitte run the vineyard along biodynamic principles, and Gerhard was recently named Austrian winemaker of the year.

Pittnauer’s Pitti is an interesting blend of Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt grapes that balances generous youthful fruit against a bit of tannin grip and bright acidity. Deep dark red black tinged colour with a bright crimson hue. Aromas of spicy scorched earth are mixed in with some freshly crushed berry scents along with a hint of liquorice and clove. Light to medium weight the palate possesses lively red berry flavours with nuances of liquorice, earth and spice also present. It’s quite juicy finishing bright with slightly dryish but otherwise fine grained tannins. Aftertaste of fresh red berries, some earthiness and spice.
Drink over the next 2-3 years.
