Mark Maxwell and his family established Maxwell wines in 1979 and for many years were best known for their Honey Mead (which is still available). The Silver Hammer takes its name from a famous song by four famous performers from the 1960's (if you can't guess who they are, you are probably too young to be reading wine reviews!). The wine was matured for 16 months in new and seasoned French and American oak barrels.

Rich, luscious and big on value this Shiraz hammers the taste buds with flavour

Magnificent colour saturation displaying an impenetrable inky black core with a very deep black crimson red hue. Aromas of liquorice, blackberries and dark plum invade the nostrils with vanillin cedar and spice notes also present. Full bodied and packed with richness the palate yet again over delivers featuring generously textured flavours of ripe blackberries, liquorice and dark plum that opulently caresses the mouth over a background of toasty vanillin oak and spicy pepper. Velvet like tannins with a long aftertaste of ripe blackberries, liquorice, dark plum, spicy vanillin oak and pepper.
Cellar 5-6 years.
