2014 Heathcote Winery Mail Coach Shiraz

Impenetrable inky black core with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Pronounced aromas of liquorice, ripe black cherries and blackberries drift from the glass over vanillin oak and spicy pepper end notes. Full bodied opulent palate with a rich flavour profile of liquorice, ripe blackberries and dark plums sitting over inky vanillin cedar and blackpepper. The slightly dryish tannins providing the necessary structure for longer term cellaring. Long aftertaste of ripe blackberries, dark plum, liquorice, inky vanillin oak, subtle earth and blackpepper. Includes 2% Viognier.

Warm, hearty and complete. This is an excellent release. Cloves, smoky oak, oodles of blackberried fruit, perhaps a lick of ironstone. Coffeed flavour, most likely from oak, is part of the tapestry. Tannin ripples from the mid-palate onwards. Essence of Heathcote shiraz. Drink by 2028.
