Pours a semi translucent bright dark red colour with a crimson hue. Red cherry and a hint of sour cherry are intermixed with some fresh herb and earth aromas followed by spicy cedar end notes. Light in body, flavours of ripe red cherries mingle with subtlety scorched earth , old cedar and spice. Bright dry finish with fine grained tannins. Aftertaste of spice, red cherries, scorched earth and old cedar. With a few years bottle age the acidity will soften and a savoury, rustic earthiness develop.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc 13%

Other Reviews....
Once again prominent wood stops just short of dominating the overtly spicy nose of cassis, black cherry, lavender and warm earth scents. There is excellent power and volume to the concentrated, intense and mouth coating mineral-driven flavors that culminate in an impressively long and balanced finish. This is a bigger wine than the Grèves and should amply reward mid-term cellaring. Drink from 2024+.

Allen Meadows - Burghound

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets "Ancienne Cuvée Carnot" has a rather conservative bouquet, earthy and missing some fruit intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and attractive red cherry, cranberry and blueberry fruit. This Volnay actually improves as it goes along, and the finish conveys satisfying depth and a gentle grip, the aftertaste long and persistent. This is a strong Volnay from Bouchard Père, and it comes recommended. Tasted September 2017. Drink 2019 - 2032.
