Showing good depth the wine has a deep dark red core with a bright dark crimson red hue. Beautifully perfumed aromas of violets intermixed with dark cherries, strawberries and red cherries gracefully rise from the glass overlaying faint clove notes, a hint of stalky cedar, dried meats and spice. Light but possessing abundant power and an understated richness the palate delivers a tightly knit core of dark cherry, strawberry and red cherry flavours which merge into some earthiness, dried meats, stalky cedar and spice. Dry finish with slightly assertive tannins combining with bright acidity to provide an impressive structural framework. Concludes long with spicy dark cherries, strawberries, lightly roasted cedar, earth and spicy dried meats.
Cellar 10-12 years to see this impressive Pommard fully unravel all of its wares.
Alc 13%

Other Reviews....
This is markedly reduced at present so I would strongly suggest decanting it if you are tempted to open a bottle young. Otherwise the supple, round and utterly delicious medium-bodied flavors possess a sleek muscularity and solid intensity, all wrapped in a lingering finish that presently displays a hint of an edge that may or may not ever round off. As such my rating is a compromise as I suspect that this will develop even better complexity with age and thus even if the balance isn't perfect, the '14 Clos des Epeneaux should still make for a lovely wine. Drink from 2024+.

Allen Meadows - Burghound

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux from Comte Armand has quite a nuanced nose with dusky red berry fruit, autumn leaves and a touch of stewed black tea. I like the cohesion and focus here. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine line of acidity, nicely balanced and supple in the mouth. There is something easy-drinking and approachable about this Pommard: well crafted and with satisfying tension. While not the greatest in recent vintages, this is still a pleasurable Pommard that overcame the hail that destroyed 90% of the vineyard that year. Tasted September 2017. Drink 2018 - 2028.

(bottled in June of 2016): Dark red Deep fruit aromas of plum and redcurrant are complicated by leather, game and earth nuances Surprisingly silky and broad, with its red fruit and smoke flavors joined by a note of milk chocolate The wine's substantial dusty but ultimately refined tannins currently shorten its finish but there's enough mid-palate density here for this wine to come into balance with bottle aging Finishes with hints of olive tapenade and milk chocolate With aeration this wine showed a lovely combination of sweetness and acidity. Drink 2022-2030.

Stephen Tanzer - Vinous (Dec 2016)

The colour has just started to evolve but there is such a burst of generous red fruit. Huge work was needed in the vineyard in 2014 to deliver a very small crop. The wine shows a little firmness, whether Pommard or hail, but Paul has deliberately gone for a very light touch this year. I seem to have noted crushed walnut shells on the flavour front.
