Produced from a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 3% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot with maturation taking place in French oak (20% new) for a period of 14 months. Fruit was predominantly Estate grown in the Wallcliffe sub-region of Margaret River with a small portion (13%) of Cabernet selected from a mature vineyard in the Frankland River region.
Opaque black dark red colour with a bright dark crimson red hue. Nosing reveals aromas of blackcurrant, black olives and mulberry over a cedary tobacco background with some spice end notes. Medium bodied with good richness and elegance the palate has flavours of blackcurrant, mulberries and cedary tobacco characters with traces of spicy bay leaf also present. Dry but very fine grained tannins. Aftertaste of blackcurrant, mulberry, cedary tobacco characters and spice.
Cellar 3-4 years.
Includes 5% cabernet franc, 3% merlot and 2% petit verdot, 20% enjoyed a pre-fermentation cold soak, 30% given extended maceration for 28 days, matured for 14 months in French barriques (20% new). This is what you might expect of a $30 wine, not $18. It is bold upright with joie de vivre, juicy, yet pleasantly tart. A great drink for a celebration. Drink by 2023.
