Fruit for the Black Chook Shiraz is sourced from McLaren Vale and Padthaway with the Shiraz grapes being co-fermented with a small amount of Viognier skins which enhances the wines perfume, colour and supple mouthfeel. Totally opaque black dark purple colour with a dark purple red hue. Aromas of ripe blackberry, dark plum and liquorice arise from the glass with underlying toasty oak and some spice end notes. Ripe and joosy the palate has a rich sumptuous flavour profile of ripe blackberries, dark plum and liquorice over some spicy toasty vanillin oak. Solid fine grained tannins provide good support. Long joosy aftertaste of ripe blackberries, liquorice, toasty oak and spice.
