Opaque dark purple black colour with a dark purple red hue. Black cherry, liquorice and smoked meat aromas ascend from the glass with some scorched earth, graphite and pepper following on. Medium weight the palate’s black cherry and subtle liquorice flavours are overlaid by clove and scorched earth with blackpepper and dried meats on the finish. Drying tannins impart some chewiness on the elegant mouthfeel. Aftertaste of black cherries, blackpepper, subtle liquorice, scorched earth and dried meats.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Michel told me he was very happy with his 2013s from the north, and the 2013 Crozes Hermitage has outstanding potential. Offering up beautiful, peppery, spice, herbal aromatics, with plenty of sweet fruit, it’s medium-bodied, soft and supple with a forward, fruit-loaded style geared for early drinking. It should represent a solid value.
