2013 Principia Altior Pinot Noir

The Altior is Principia’s selection of top barrels and sees slightly more new oak (40%). Semi translucent dark red colour with tinges of black around the edges and a dark red hue. Excellent intensity with perfumed aromas of violets intermixed with ripe dark cherries and dark plums overlaid by some toasty anise like characters with faint hints of stalky clove and spice following. Rich and supplely textured, yet elegant the palate features mouthfilling flavours of ripe dark cherries and dark plums over some toasty cedar like characters, dried meats and spice. Outstanding power wave with silky, very polished tannins. Finishes very long with an aftertaste of dark cherries, dark plum, subtle anise, lightly toasted cedar, dried meats and spice.
